Maybelline Color Show, Limited Editions, Avante Green and Auburn Ablaze

This one was another that I promised to show! Getting pretty good on keeping my word huh? Anyways I’ve recently been on a no buy and decided stepping into the stores was a bad idea. I did very good for over a month and then decided I should see what kind of displays are up. And lo- and behold there was a Maybelline Color Show LIMITED EDITION display! I pretty much wanted all of them, but decided Avante Green was my #1 must have of all of them and for SOME REASON I’m not sure why- I bought Auburn Ablaze instead. So I kept thinking about Avante Green dreading that I made a mistake. I had to wait a whole week before I could go back and the display was GONE! But I go to Walgreens quite often and knew that the left overs from displays are on the counter by the register in the beauty department and was over joyed to see the last bottle sitting there. Like it was waiting for me. Psychotic,  I know. Anyways enough babble.

Maybelline Color Show- Avante Green

Maybelline Avante Green is in 3 coats, and probably could have used another one…maybe two.  It’s very thin but not a super runny formula its almost painful to work with however. If you have a good base color to go underneath- go for it. I’m sadly disappointed that this didn’t have any real color shift (kinda blue-ish) to it outside of the bottle. What can I say? Lesson learned.

Maybelline Color Show- Auburn Ablaze

Maybelline Auburn Ablaze is in 2 coats. This ended up being a big win for me. I don’t have a lot of colors like this (none since I try to keep my collection simple) but this picture is bringing out a lot more of its wine colored hidden shimmer. In indoor lighting this is a bit more brown with the shimmer leaning a tiny bit more towards purple. Dry time is pretty good- my first coat was thin and my second was thicker then it needed to be-  I could have gotten away with it being thinner and still full coverage (and dry a bit faster, too).

P.S. Sorry about the sloppy slop paint job! I try to do it right the first time, if I can’t I try to at least clean up after myself. Children needed attention so I took a picture before I scuffed them, and I really did ding them bad afterwards.

So far I’m pleased with the polishes that Maybelline keeps coming out with- whether its core line or limited edition like these two. It’s brands like these that make me afraid to waste money trying a new brand I’m not sure I will like!

Sally Hansen Lustre Chromes; Lava and Scarab

Things ended up taking a little longer then expected AND I’m easily distracted lately. So since the time of me saying I had Sally Hansens new Lustre Chrome “Lava”, I had been drooling over pictures of “Scarab” and went to Walmart (since it was a whole $1 cheaper then Walgreens) and bought it. Since I did that I might as well show them both on the same post. With out further ado…….

Sally Hanse Lustre Chrome; Lava

Sally Hansen Lustre Chrome Lava, is named perfectly, I do believe! This orange-pink duo-chrome is such a beautiful glowy polish with an awesome shift! Seems very micro flecked and really benefits from a top coat. I used Sally Hansen Insta Dri. SH recommends using one of their own as a top coat- but in my opinion any should work. **Just as a note, it isn’t very dull- top coat just makes it feel and look a bit more glassy.**  Application- cake, a little sheer but build-able. Dry time- decent. From index to pinkie (L-R) are 3 coats. 3 coats, 2-3 over black, 2-3 over black. Sorry I can’t remember if it’s 2 or 3, I meant to write it down.  I really do love this and have gotten compliments on it- which is pretty rare for me. Haha.

Sally Hanse Lustre Chrome; Scarab

Sally Hanse Lustre Chrome; Scarab

Sally Hansen Lustre Chrome Scarab, is a pretty blue green duo-chrome polish.  This isn’t as big of a shift as Lava was but it’s still quite beautiful. Another difference between these two is that Scarab is much more pigmented then Lava. Also I feel that Scarab was more of a true chrome since you can make out my outline (mainly the camera) in some of these pictures. Application- cake. Dry time- excellent. Also could use top coat to gloss it up. From index to pinkie (L-R) 2 coats, 2 coats, 1 over black, 1 over black.

So in summary, I love these! Thay’re non-problematic and could use a top coat to make them look and feel glassy, but still looks absolutely stellar without it.

I’m sooo glad duo-chromes are trending right now because even though this isn’t a completely new concept, I like that it’s becoming more readily available to the masses. Unlike crackles and magnetic’s I think that this will be popular for a long time, since it pretty much already has been very popular among nail polish junkies for years. I only have a few other duo chromes but I’m hoping to expand this part of my collection as more of the big brand companies decide to make entire duo-chrome collections.

Hard Candy Beetle

Lately I’ve been really wanting to get some polishes from Orly. Probably because I’m not supposed to be buying anything still and also because I don’t own even ONE! Sad I know. SO I started looking at lots of Orly’s that I thought I might like to buy…someday. And Space Cadet was one I was like “OOooooo Ahhhh!” and then found out it has a 100% dupe- that I already own. I hate kicking myself later when I realize I bought something that technically is just a different bottle with a different name and brand.  So I giddily pulled it out and put it on like I just bought it- because I’ve never worn it before then! I told my hubby about this “shopping in my own stash” and he looked at me like I was nuts…Ha…ha…ha. Anyways onto the swatches- I doubt anybody reads this part anyways.

So here is Hard Candy Beetle dupe for Orly Space Cadet.

Hard Candy Beetle

Hard Candy Beetle

Hard Candy Beetle, is in two coats over black polish on index and middle and over metallic green on ring and pinky. I don’t think I could be happier with how these pictures turned out. Most color shifting polishes are a PITA to picture, but this one apparently loves me. To me I usually see the colors yellow and red with this, and I believe there is some orange and gold maybe some purple to it. You can build it up even more if you desire. I did the green because this polish has a deep murky green base to it. you can barely notice the difference and if I did a coat or two more I don’t think you’d be able to tell at all.

Pure Ice Heartbreaker Skittle Swatch

So this is the only thing I have been permitted to buy since my super strict “no buy” rule I’m on right now. I know it’s not new but I knew I had to have it. So I did a skittles swatch because I’ve already seen it on blues….lots. So here are some I thought might have interesting results. without futher ado- Pure Ice Heartbreaker

Pure Ice Heartbreaker

Pure Ice Heartbreaker

So HOPEFULLY I can remember what all of these where. And yes I know I might have made it seem like I was doing very different stuff but that phase is still alittle experimental right now. From left to right.  Wnw Black Creme, Sation Oh My Oceania, Sinful Colors Lavender, Sally Hansen Blue It, all with one coat of  Pure Ice Heartbreaker. I love this, it really makes things pop. My favorite combo is over the purple, it fills a void for a purple with blue/green shimmer. There’s really not much to say about this because as you can clearly see- it’s awesome. Barely noticable over some of the already shimmery polishes, but I think any creme will dazzle with this over it. Makes OMO look more like I was hoping it would be.

Sation You Butter Tell Me

So I have to admit that I got this one in particular because of Robin from robinmosesnailart on YT. She showed this in I don’t know what tutorial but when she said the name and cracked up so did I. Also when I found out that this was a yellow jelly I knew I had to have it. Trying to amass as many jellies as I can.

Sation You Butter Tell Me

Sation You Butter Tell Me

Sation You Butter Tell Me in 3 coats is super sheer. I love that this seems to brighten the white parts of my nails! I put the first pic in because I believe it to be a bit more color accurate then the second. The second one seems to lean a bit more green like a highlighter yellow-but it really is a yellow. Probably one of the easiest jellies I’ve worked with. Dry time is decent.

So what do you think? Anything?

Sation, Oh My Oceania

Another Sation for you! Its a beautiful light sea green…yes that is my best description. Also has a VERY subtle sheer blue shimmer.

Sation, Oh My Oceania

Sation Oh My Oceania is in 3 coats no top coat. The formula is good, a little runny and dries a little slow. As you can see I stuck my fingers in my hair for a second and was too lazy to start over. Okay so a tip for those of you out there who have runny polishes that pool up on the side edge of the nail and finger- watch robinmosesnailart- seriously she does this thing where she puts her finger on the edge of it and lifts it off(like rolling your finger away). Definitely helps with the evenness and drying time. If its not a big pool of polish it dries faster. Its a method I use a lot with runny polishes and makes life easier lol.

Sation Class Clown + You Butter Tell Me

So I was hoping that because I bought these 2 at the same time that they’d look fairly decent together as well as on there own. So what do you think?

Sation You Butter Tell Me + Class Clown

3 coats of YBTM and 1 of Class Clown. I think this is fun looking and a friend of mine said it looks like a plastic Easter egg.

Sation, Shyest Shade

Here we go! Another Sation! A darling white hexagon jammed packed glitter polish! I will compare and re update later but I find this to look quite similar to OPI Pirouette My Whistle , but alas time constraints are h0lding me back ATM.

To me Shyest Shade is a good name for this polish, it seems to subtle but once you get it out of  its shell  botttle it has SUCH a sparkly personality.

Sation Shyest Shade

Sation Shyest Shade is one coat over  Sation Oh My Oceania. Love how Sation’s glitters come out very easily, they’re thicker so it seems like less messing around on placement. They just gone on with few strokes. I don’t really have too much to say except that I hope to be ordering more from Miss Professional Nails soon. 😀

Sation Class Clown

So I recently ordered 4 polishes from Miss Professional Nail- Sation. I have only just started hearing about them this year even though they’ve been around for awhile- but apparently just redid their bottles. I really like this new shape- very unique, good size, the older ones look like the round Claire’s bottles, from what I’ve seen. Anyways, Class Clown will be the first of the four I will show.

Sation Class Clown

Sation Class Clown

Sation Class Clown  is a red and blue medium hex glitter, with MORE fine glitter and a smaller sparse amount of black hex glitter in a lime green jelly base. 3 coats and a top coat.  A little gritty but so super glittery. Formula is a little on the thick side but that is so good in this case, it doesn’t glob up. I didn’t really notice in the bottle that there was black glitters because there’s not a lot but I managed to get 2 on 2 fingers haha. Sooo cute and would look great over a green (duh!). Also I know it looks like there’s other colors besides blue and red but it’s just the way light is reflecting off the glitter- I only mention this because looking at the pictures I had to double check the bottle.

Stripes! Yellow & Blues

As promised I’m attempting more nail art. So to me there’s something super familiar about these stripes….Maybe it’s something everyone has seen or maybe it’s just something I’ve encountered in my personal life but either way I can’t put my finger on it. So I put it on my finger HA!…Not funny? Bleh…

Yellow & Blues Stripes

So base color is OPI- Did You Ear about Van Gogh? and the stripes are all acrylic paints that I bought either at the craft store or Wally’s. REMEMBER: Top coat! Or it will wash off! I wanted the base this very grey/beige color. Because the night before I was practicing these same colors of stripes with my striping brushes on bare nails and decided I needed to seal the deal and make it a mani. So what do you think? I actually enjoyed doing this with absolutely no frustrations. Although I think I might go in and cut some ghost hairs off some of my striping brushes. My lines could be straighter but really this is my second time using them so I’m quite happy.

Oh so you know how I always say I’m super hard on my nails and polish doesn’t stay on for very long? Like it seriously depends but sometimes I don’t get past 24 hrs without a chip (worse case I’ve had was like less the 6 hrs!). But when I wore these stripes they lasted entirely un-chipped for……………..(wait for it)…………………3 days!!! And then minor chipping the next few days! So I also mentioned this to  my sister-in-law and she said that her mani I did awhile back stayed on long too. SO for you girls out there who are like me and don’t feel like putting on gloves to do dishes and all that jazz, I recommend doing a quick nail art with acrylic paints and a top coat over it to make you mani last!
