Nicole by OPI, One Less Lonely Glitter

So I’ve been on the hunt for this purple glitter for a while now. YES, it IS a Justin Bieber polish from the One Less Lonely Girl Collection- in his fave color. Luckily T.J. Maxx had it in a combo pack. So they ended up being…$3 a piece? Pretty good considering they’re more then double that at Target and Walmart. Can’t beat a good deal…and pretty glitter. O.O

Nicole by OPI. One Less Lonely Glitter

One Less Lonely Glitter is one full coat on the ring finer and dabbed on the tips of the rest. I can see me using this glitter on LOTS of other colors. Very pretty, very easy to work with, subtle but pretty. Lavender glitter in a clear base could be opaque in 3-4 coats I bet. A right hand photo did you notice that? Haha, kind hard to do but its done lol.

Here’s a quick look at Sinful Colors Slate that I use underneath. 3 easy coats super nice and smooth. Subtle silver shimmer though it.

Sinful Colors, Slate

Sooooo pretty!

P.S. Sorry I didn’t clean up for some strange reason, I must have been to excited to photograph it. 😛

Sinful Colors Firefly

Sinful Colors Firefly

Hello! I am just itching for summer. You see, where I live, spring has just barely sprung. So to cheer all you north westerner’s up I put a beautiful sunshiny yellow polish before anything else for this post! I actually purchased this because it was on a promotional display (on sale 99 cents!!) which means once its gone I wont be seeing it for a while. Also, because I was rather angry with Sinful Colors Unicorn, a very soft yellow and frustrating beyond belief.

Sinful Colors Firefly

Sinful Colors Firefly is in 3 coats. It is a little bit sheer and smooth. At 2 coats there was still a bit of a visible nail line. It seems there might be a slight VNL in these pictures. The little bubble on the ringer finger is because of my topcoat. I would almost say this is a shimmer BUT it appears to be more glass flecked. Maybe a combo of both. Either way, its stunning for a yellow. I’ve never been partial to yellow but this would be on my top 3!

Firefly IMO goes on a lot better then Unicorn.

Sinful Colors Zeus + Milani Jewel FX: Gems

Hello and welcome! If you’re new here you should check out the last 3 posts so that the next statement makes sense. This is the last of “the ugly hangnail” photos.  Again, I apologize!

Sinful Color’s Zeus is from their spring Cast Away collection. I’m hoping the display is still up, there are a few other’s I would like. The collection has a lot of blues, some purples and a few greens. I think maybe they’re all exclusives to the line except for maybe one.

Zeus may be a dupe for something but I can’t think of it and I don’t own any!

Sinful Colors Zeus

The formula is pretty good, wasn’t as sheer as I thought it might be. I used 2 coats and one coat of SH Insta Dri. this picture is a bit shaded but you can still see the pinky shimmer.

Sinful Colors Zeus

Here you can see the pink shimmer glow!

Sinful Colors Zeus

Sinful Colors Zeus + Milani Jewel FX: Gems

This is 2 careful coats of Gem. The formula was very good a little thick but not soo much that it’s pulling all the glitters away with it. I say careful because when it comes to multi sized glitter I can be a bit particular about where things go. I bought this because surprisingly with the almost half my collection being glitters- I didn’t have a multi color glitter polish. Before buying this I had Jordana’s Glitters Gemstones, Wet’n wild Party of Five Glitters and this one in my hand. I choose this because WW just didn’t have enough color- or many primary colors for that matter.  Jordana’s Gemstones was very similar to Milani’s Gem but it seemed a little more faded, and if I remember correctly- it’s didn’t have multi-sized glitter.

Milani Jewel FX: Gems

Another 2 careful coats.

Personally I love purples and blues but I still can’t get over Zeus. Since that was the last one of my swatching that day I kept it on for as long as it would last me. Which if you know me, that wasn’t very long.

So what are your thoughts on Zeus?

Sinful Colors Flakies Polish!

So on my weekly visit to Walgreen’s I nearly jumped for joy when I saw that Sinful Colors has their own version of a flakies polish called Green Ocean. It goes with their St. Patrick’s Day display! I honestly can’t tell you what else was on display because when I saw that- that was all I saw! I vaguely remember some skinny striping polishes….probably something they always have though. I’ve noticed that with SC, when they have a holiday display it usually contains colors from their core line. But not always…..especially in this case because I’ve never seen Green Ocean (GO) before. I wish I could have SC other “Ocean’s” a blue and a pink! But the pink is called Deep Red Ocean…? W.e! Picture time!

I’m not sure if I care for it over white….my hubby said it looked like a fungus. GO is a little bit gritty especially if you blob it on like I did on a few fingers. A thicker topcoat would work great. Right now I don’t own any other colored flakies but a short while back Zoya had a promotional thing going on where you got 2 free polishes- you just had to pay shipping. And with my polishes came a color chart with their True collection which has the flakies. I also received the Feel collection color chart with 6 empty spaces…sooooo I decided to fill in one with the GO to compare it that way since I do not actually own any Zoya flakies. I thought at first it might be just like Opal since its green too. But when I pulled the brush out I noticed that there was actual glitters in GO. And in the tray it was a bit less green. Kind of an in between Opal and Maisie( which is blue).

After I bought this I almost immediately regretted not buying a back up. I knew I’d be crazy about this! Luckily I live in a rather small town and when I went back almost a week later there was 2 bottles left so I bought them both!….Sad when you think that even those 2 bottles, actually all 3 are cheaper then a China Glaze or an OPI.

Band wagon…Are you on it??

Hello there!

Do any of you follow the nail trends? A lot of you I’m sure are “crackled” out. I myself am still fascinated with it! But that’s not actually the trend I want to talk about. XD There’s actually 2 others on my mind at the moment.

1st being FLAKIES! Now if you haven’t picked it up by now- I love glitter. Being in MT sucks when you’re trying to get your hands on specific brands such as Finger Paints. Love their special effects polish! I would be so happy to own “Twisted”.  The one and only flaky I have is Essie’s “Shine of The Times”. Quite awesome I think. I don’t own SH original limited edition “Hidden Treasure” but I’ve heard that Shine of The Times is a much denser version of that.

This is Essie Shine of the times over:

Sally Hansen- White On & Black Out

Sinful Colors “Nirvana”  (which is a brown but you probably can’t tell!)

Sinful Colors “Happy Ending”  *green

Wet n’ Wild Wild Shine “Blue Moon”

Kleancolor “Barbie Pink”

Pure Ice “No Means No” *purple

Isn’t that freaking awesome?? Do any of you own this or any other flakies?

So now for the 2nd trend, I don’t own it yet! I’m on the war path for it and its hard to find here. It’s the magnetic polish! It’s an iron filled polish that when a “special” magnet (usually on the cap of the bottle) is held over it it creates a design- usually stripes. I do believe it isn’t way new but for me its only just now becoming available locally. Yes I could buy it online but I’m very leery about spending $12+ for a bottle of nail polish! Icing has come up with their own! So sometime this week I’ll be wiggling my butt into Claire’s (yes, wiggling) because not only are they sister stores with Icing- their nail polishes are exactly the same. Now our mall doesn’t have the Icing store (which btw their “magnetix” is CHEAPER) so I’m going with second best. I’ve also read from many many other nail polish blogs that the magnet for these seem to work better then a few others. I’ve heard that the China Glaze magnet is a big disappointment which is even sadder because they made it U shaped with several designs which I thought was creative. But I think it’s one of the brands that you have to buy it seperate. Maybe there is a few other but none come to mind at the moment. Really quick before I forget- go here if you want a really good FAQ from someone that has actually had the chance to play around with this type of polish in different kinds of brands. Back to about the Icing brand they have for colors with no names that are gold, gunmetal, pink and blue. The pink and blue have a “wavy” design and the other two have straight lines, both with the option to turn the magnet. I guess you wouldn’t really have to use the guides anyway if you were wanting to be extra creative.

So besides the Icing/Claire’s Magnetix, I think Lancôme Vernis Magnétic is awesome because the magnet is attached to the bottle itself on the outside and it makes a star bust design! :O But I’m not sure it’s worth$15.50. maybe if I feel like treating myself for my birthday. 😛

But yea if you’re interested the brands that I know of that are doing this at the moment are nails, inc. (found at sephora) Layla, Lancôme, China Glaze “Magnetix”, Icing/Claire’s “Magnetix” and LCN (which I never heard of before). Thepolishaholic just recently feature a magnetic from You Mix Cosemetics.

Sorry about the length of this post. I could honestly go on all day!

Batik Inspired

For those who like to quilt or sew or may recognize the term batik. For those who don’t- it’s a type of dyed fabric. To be more accurate, its a type of dying technique. Not that it’s important to the tutorial you can learn more here.  Anyways, getting back on track now. I was admiring a scrap piece of batik fabric laying around my children’s great grandma’s sewing room and thought it would make a fun nail art design.  The awesome thing I think about batiks is that not one single square inch is exactly the same as any other.  Some places may be shaded a like but not as if it was patterned. (BEHIND the pattern! You know what I mean :P) I had a lot of fun making this video! I hope you enjoy!

What I Used:

  • “Medium” Puple: Sinful Colors “Verbena”
  • Magenta: Essie “Big Spender”
  • Dark Purple: Pure Ice “No Means No”
  • Shimmery Purple: Sally Hansen X-treme Wear “Virtual Violet”
  • Pinky Purple: Sinful Colors “Let Me Go”
  • Light Pink for DOTS:  Nicole by OPI “Kim-pletely In Love”

Tools:

  • A porous sponge ( You can use a regular cosmetic sponge but I like the other better)
  • Tweezers, for the sponge.
  • Dotting tools ( Or hair pins, sewng pins, toothpicks…you get the idea)

So for those of you paying attention- look up EpicMealTime on youtube!  Take a wild guess at what the next design I’m working on next. 😀

Gone Batty!

Here’s another Halloween design you can do- I promise this one is a lot less steps! XD

Now hopefully you all liked that this one was much shorter. If you don’t have a crackle polish you can always fake it with a plain black polish by dabbing square-ish shapes instead. If you have a plain black stripper this effects comes out even better.

Items Used:

  • Orange: Sinful Colors “Summer Peach”
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Black Crackle: China Glaze “Black Mesh”
  • Yellow: Sinful Colors “Morning Breath”

Here is a picture with different color variations. The eyes streaked a little bit due to using cheaper topcoat! I’m trying to save my more expensive stuff for my own nails! ;D The silver crackle was painted on from left to right & also from right to left!

Jeepers Creepers!

In the spirit of Halloween and everything spooky and fun, I came up with this eye popping design. XD Apparently I like puns.

♫♪ Jeepers creepers! Where’d you get those peepers? Jeepers creepers where’d you get those eyes?♪♫ Maybe I’m just old, but does anyone else remember that song? I heard it in an old black and white cartoon. And I don’t think it was Casper either…. Or was it?

Also if anyone is wondering about the cookie- it’s my famous “Less Chocolate Chips, Chocolate Chip Cookies”. I make them this way because as much as I like chocolate chip cookies- I really don’t like to bite into my cookie and see a center filled with chocolate. I’m weird, I know.

So anyways onto instructions for this design. Which happens to be my first video tutorial!!!!!! XD

Just to add into the video a little bit- for the pupil you could make a slit pupil like a cat or snake! 😀

List of Items Used:

  • White Nail Polish: OPI “Alpine Snow”
  • Wet n’ Wild Fantasy Makers Glow-in-the-dark polish
  • Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat
  • Acrylic Paints:
    • Black: Folk Art “Pure Black”
    • Navy: Folk Art “Navy”
    • Light Blue: Jo Ann’s Craft Essentials “Baby Blue”

Sorry I didn’t get a better picture of the brushes. They’re nothing special, just cheap brushes I got from Jo Ann’s. You can use whatever sizes you feel comfortable with.

Fruit For All

Fruity Fingers

Yummm! Who could resist? All these need now is a basket! XD

Base Coat all nails! I used OPI Nail Envy.

Apple! I put down a green base color for my background and used my largest dotting tool to make the sparkly red apple. It would probably look even nicer to outline you apple in black. I used my smallest dotting tool to make a “shiny” spot on the apple and the stem.

Grapes! My base color use was white, I used one of my larger dotting tools (not the largest)to sporadically place the grapes in somewhat of a cluster. Don’t have them too close or it will end up looking like a blob. I used my detail brush to add the curly stem and leaf.

Strawberry! Base color red. Use a darker green to make a saw toothed edge tip. To do this gently place the nail polish brush at an angle on the nail where you want the tip of the leaf to be and drag it downward off of the nail. Repeat until finish. Try not to place the brush to close to the previous leaf tip because they will just look like you did a sloppy french tip. It’s better to go a little bit farther away then you think it should just in case and then you can build it up if it needs it. For the seeds I used a yellow stripper polish and dabbed on the seeds. I used yellow because I thought it looked more like real seeds.

Watermelon!Creamy pink base color! Then start at the bottom with a dark green stripper and make a thing line int the tip of the nail. Make another line next to that one in a white. This next line is optional- pink! I did it this way because I think it looks nicer. If you don’t like it you can skip it. Now for the seeds you can use a dotting tool, I just used the black stripper brush and dabbed them on in somewhat of a row like you would see in a real slice of watermelon.

Kiwi! Base color is a shimmery lime green. make the center of the fruit “slice” by using a light green a making lines, very close together, into and oval shape. These lines don’t need to be uniform- just as long as they take the oval shape, leaving the center open. Make some seeds, same as before, using the stripper brush and dab them around the edges of the oval.

Top Coat!

Sorry there is no “Polishes Used” List this time! I did this awhile ago. My collection has grown since I’ve done this design and I’m not sure which colors where used for some of the nails. I will try to make this list later. I hope you enjoy this in the mean time while I try to get some new designs together for next week. 😀

Quick Question! Does anyone play OMGPop?

Sports Balls

PLAY BALL! For those of you who are sports enthusiast here are some super fun sporty nails.

For any of the designs you could either do all fingers with the one ball of your choice ( or multiple balls ) or a fun alternative could be paint your thumb and ring finger in the ball of your choice and doing all others with a complimenting french tip.

For example if you like basketball, do the thumb and ring finger as the ball and all other with an orange tip maybe even go over the “smile” line with a black stripper to outline.

Another idea would be to do all the other tips with your favorite sports team’s colors!

Okay now for the breakdown of these designs. Basecoat all nails!

Balls You Hit! XD

The baseball can be done two ways. After putting down your white polish you can either take a detail brush and go in a zig-zag like motion to make it appear threaded  or just do the two lines curving in and then out again with a red stripper. If you attempt the zig-zag motion and you’re not used to doing detailed work, practice on paper until you’ve got a nice flow going. Also, if you don’t have a detail brush just try a toothpick. Finish with a top coat.

The tennis ball was very fun to make. I used a cosmetic sponge to sponge on the electric green. After that layer dries but still a little tacky I used the sponge again to sponge on a light layer of a very electric yellow (reminds me of a highlighter). I chose to sponge it so that it gives it more of a texturized look and feel.  After those dry use a white stripper to make your tennis ball seams. The same as the baseball, it’s just two lines curving in-out-in. These are very easy, just go slower if you’re not too confident in your abilities. I didn’t finish with a top coat so that it has a fuzzy tennis ball like look.

For the basketball use a bold dusky orange. You may need 2-3 coats depending on the opaqueness of your polish. You could also do your second coat texturized like the tennis ball with a cosmetic sponge. I haven’t tried this method for the basketball, but it might look good. After you coats are dry add the curving in-out-in lines and then 2 intersecting lines to finish the look. Finish with a top coat.

So for the football paint you nail all brown 2-3 coats. After it dries use a white stripper to make one line down the middle and then some intersecting lines for the threads. Finish with a top coat.

As for top coats instead of a glossy one, you could also use a matte top coat to make them seem a little realistic. If you do use a matte top coat for the tennis ball I suggest doing this before the white lines, but it’s not a rule and it’s up to you. I suggest this so that the line are glossy over top the “fuzzy” ball.

Polishes Used:

  • Baseball White: OPI “Alpine Snow”
  • Red “Threads”: OPI “Color So Hot It Berns”
  • Basketball Orange: OPI “Chop-Sticking To My Story”
  • Black Stripper: L.A. Colors Art Deco “Black”
  • Football Brown: Revlon “Hot For Chocolate”
  • Tennis Ball Green: Sinful Colors “Irish Green”
  • Tennis Ball Yellow: Sinful Color “Neon Melon”
  • White Stripper: L.A. Colors Art Deco “White”

So as always you do not need the exact same brands that I use.

Since I did these designs on my nail wheel, I didn’t use a base or top coat. Normally if I was sporting this (XD) on my own nail I would use OPI Nail Envy for my base coat and either my Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat or my matte top coat Hard Candy “Matte-ly In Love”.

So I hoped you like these and leave a comment telling me what one you liked or your favorite sport/team. 😀
