This one was another that I promised to show! Getting pretty good on keeping my word huh? Anyways I’ve recently been on a no buy and decided stepping into the stores was a bad idea. I did very good for over a month and then decided I should see what kind of displays are up. And lo- and behold there was a Maybelline Color Show LIMITED EDITION display! I pretty much wanted all of them, but decided Avante Green was my #1 must have of all of them and for SOME REASON I’m not sure why- I bought Auburn Ablaze instead. So I kept thinking about Avante Green dreading that I made a mistake. I had to wait a whole week before I could go back and the display was GONE! But I go to Walgreens quite often and knew that the left overs from displays are on the counter by the register in the beauty department and was over joyed to see the last bottle sitting there. Like it was waiting for me. Psychotic, I know. Anyways enough babble.
Maybelline Avante Green is in 3 coats, and probably could have used another one…maybe two. It’s very thin but not a super runny formula its almost painful to work with however. If you have a good base color to go underneath- go for it. I’m sadly disappointed that this didn’t have any real color shift (kinda blue-ish) to it outside of the bottle. What can I say? Lesson learned.
Maybelline Auburn Ablaze is in 2 coats. This ended up being a big win for me. I don’t have a lot of colors like this (none since I try to keep my collection simple) but this picture is bringing out a lot more of its wine colored hidden shimmer. In indoor lighting this is a bit more brown with the shimmer leaning a tiny bit more towards purple. Dry time is pretty good- my first coat was thin and my second was thicker then it needed to be- I could have gotten away with it being thinner and still full coverage (and dry a bit faster, too).
P.S. Sorry about the sloppy slop paint job! I try to do it right the first time, if I can’t I try to at least clean up after myself. Children needed attention so I took a picture before I scuffed them, and I really did ding them bad afterwards.
So far I’m pleased with the polishes that Maybelline keeps coming out with- whether its core line or limited edition like these two. It’s brands like these that make me afraid to waste money trying a new brand I’m not sure I will like!
Another Sation for you! Its a beautiful light sea green…yes that is my best description. Also has a VERY subtle sheer blue shimmer.
Sation Oh My Oceania is in 3 coats no top coat. The formula is good, a little runny and dries a little slow. As you can see I stuck my fingers in my hair for a second and was too lazy to start over. Okay so a tip for those of you out there who have runny polishes that pool up on the side edge of the nail and finger- watch robinmosesnailart- seriously she does this thing where she puts her finger on the edge of it and lifts it off(like rolling your finger away). Definitely helps with the evenness and drying time. If its not a big pool of polish it dries faster. Its a method I use a lot with runny polishes and makes life easier lol.
So I recently ordered 4 polishes from Miss Professional Nail- Sation. I have only just started hearing about them this year even though they’ve been around for awhile- but apparently just redid their bottles. I really like this new shape- very unique, good size, the older ones look like the round Claire’s bottles, from what I’ve seen. Anyways, Class Clown will be the first of the four I will show.
Sation Class Clown is a red and blue medium hex glitter, with MORE fine glitter and a smaller sparse amount of black hex glitter in a lime green jelly base. 3 coats and a top coat. A little gritty but so super glittery. Formula is a little on the thick side but that is so good in this case, it doesn’t glob up. I didn’t really notice in the bottle that there was black glitters because there’s not a lot but I managed to get 2 on 2 fingers haha. Sooo cute and would look great over a green (duh!). Also I know it looks like there’s other colors besides blue and red but it’s just the way light is reflecting off the glitter- I only mention this because looking at the pictures I had to double check the bottle.
I bought this pack of polishes from T.J. Maxx averaging to be about $1 a piece. I hate that these do not have any names anywhere. I’ve even searched online and the only one I may have a name for is the yellow one “Sea shell”??? Something like that. So here are the pictures all just titled L.A. Colors. All with 3 coats.
So just quick side notes on each (click them for a better look) the pink is a jelly!! Green is a cremey-jelly. Blue, purple are cremes. Orange, yellow and grey are sheer and shimmery, the grey being more metallic. These are all pretty good formula wise but the blue seemed to drag a little. Still wish these had names Oh well.
Also on my own personal news- I’m sure nobody really reads this- I’ve been put of a very strict no buy for….possibly indefinitely. So I’m sorry that I will most likely NOT show anything new in the future. I am really sorry considering there are 2 from the OPI collection that I want (German-incure by OPI & Every Month Is Oktoberfest) and a very cheap Pure Ice “Heart breaker” that is really awesome and a must have to complete a collection. Some other blogger already have pictures of it so if you wanna see what I’m tlaking about…just google it I surely have more then enough to keep showing stuff- swatch wise that is. I guess this is just an extra push for me to really get back into the nail art. I have lots of ideas just lacking motivation right now- so I guess I will use the “no buy” as motivation.
Hey sorry I’m a little behind on the post for these videos but here it is! Big thank you to Sammy from “The Nailasaurus” for showing us that you can create a beautiful gradient like a pro! I really felt compelled to mention Sammy because it seemed like after she posted her tutorial that there were tons on people on YT putting up videos (doing the same exact thing she was) and I wasn’t really looking it see if they credited her but I wanted to be sure I did, because I sure as heck didn’t come up with this on my own!! So yea please click the link!
And another big thank you to Totallycoolnails on youtube for showing me there are other way to do a splatter nail without a straw! Watching her tutorial totally made me think AH TOOTHBRUSH DUH! Click that link too!!! These girls are geniuses.
Colors for the first tutorial are
All Color Club:
- Tangerine Scream (Orange)
- Electro Candy (Pink)
- What A Shock (Green)
Even though this summer is big for neons and all the major brands seem to have a summer neon line up, I found this collection at Ross early this spring. It really makes me hesitant to buy any of the new neons out there- as unbelievable as that sounds. Maybe they’re not as neon as some are now? Color Club Electro Candy was from summer 2009.
Formula wise I find these are great and pop if you have white polish for a base. All of these (except for Pure Energy<the blue one>) are one thickish coat on top of two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. I also used the “Vivid Top Coat” that came with the set. Which I believe to is to bring out the subtle shimmer in all of these. I must say subtle is definitely the word. A little more visible in person, regardless I ♥ these. If you don’t use top coat these dry to a dull finish. I can’t even say it satin matte because it isn’t!
The shimmer in What A Shock should be blue. And this color probably turned out more accurate then the rest.
The shimmer in Volt Of Light should be green. And the color should be a little brighter.
The collections namesake Electro Candy. Probably has the most visible shimmer which seems to be white. This is very bright but it should be a little more saturated in this photo. Think more like the “dark parts” and less like where the light hits it.
Tangerine Scream was insanely hard to capture and it make me wonder how well it would have turned out if I had a light box. This is not accurate at all and think more of a caution cone color with a silvery white shimmer. But I thought I would share the pictures because they look super cool to me.
Ultra Violet wasn’t nearly as bad as Tangerine Scream to capture but none the less the color is off. My camera has something against purples. What’s in the bottle in this pic should be a touch darker and it has a beautiful blue shimmer that is so pretty IRL.
Pure Energy is another one that should be a bit darker with a light blue shimmer in it. Super subtle in this one. Oh and this one is two coats over two coats of white.
So thats all and you can look forward to my using 3 of these in an upcoming gradient tutorial in video form. ;D
Hello! Today I wanted to share with you a polish from the OPI’s new The Amazing Spider-man Collection. OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (JSL), is an awesome duo/multi chorme polish that reflects green and gold. It the bottle there is blue but unfortunately, that doesn’t translate onto the nail.
:O Look at that bottle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OPI JSP is in 3 coats here and no top coat. Very good formula nice and smooth, I was actually expecting it to be a bit more sheer then it actually was. I really didn’t intend on putting so many pictures for this post but I really wanted to show how different it can be even in the same lighting. You can almost see the blue on the last picture. Just absolutely stunning IMO. This is one of those very few polishes that I felt like I HAD to have it.
OK I don’t really need to say this because chances are- you already know. I’ve heard and seen that this is a dead on dupe for Chanel’s Peridot. I don’t have Peridot to compare it to, but if you search it online you will find lots of bloggers who do. SOOO that being said this is by far much cheaper.
A very long but funny story goes with this and another polish from the collection. I had called the girls at the local beauty school- which is my closest OPI seller and requested they call me when this collection came in. When they called me 2 weeks later and I asked if they’d hold onto two bottles for me, this one- JSP and Number One Nemesis. I normally wouldn’t do this but I live in a very small town I’m actually 10 miles out of town. Long story short- my hubby went and picked up my polishes without me knowing, I didn’t have a car to get there in the first place but I was freaking out about getting there (which he let me do!!! in front of his friend btw) before they closed (it was in like away10 mins ATM) and just when I felt like I’d just have to wait until the next day he pulled them out of his pocket. For some girls this would be no big deal but my hubby HATES chemically smells- in fact all un-natural smells. So for him to first of go INTO the school, was shocking enough and then to buy NAIL POLISH?! Probably his worst offender? I’m not sure which he hates more- makeup or nail polish? Maybe aerosol air fresheners…Oh well you get the drift. I was beyond shocked.
Whoa got off track! But here’s JSP with Kleancolor’s Coffee Addict stamped over it and Sally Hansen Insta Dri topcoat.
This turned out just the way I hoped it would. Not too strong as to take away from the base color but not to light as to blend in and disappear. This isn’t my first time stamping but I do think this is my first post with my stamping featured…ummmm Oh! The image plate is a red angel RA-104, there’s two designs but its still the same plate. I bought my Red Angel’s on amazon.com!
So what do you think of this color? what about stamping? Have you tried it yet?
Hello! If you missed part 1 click here! I’m not going to say anything else about Pirouette My Whistle (PMW) because it’s all in part 1. But I will say that I love it and I will be using it again in a post, who knows when though?
So here’s the right hand! PMW is 2 coasts on all nails with Sally Hansen Intsa Dri Topcoat. Sorry about the middle finger I was already beyond frustrated to fix it!
Kleancolor Melon Green is 3 coats. Kind of frosty builds nicely.
3 coats of Sinful Colors Secret Admirer. This doesn’t dry real fast but it doesn’t take forever. 2 coats probably would have been fine. I’m not exactly sure what I was thinking when I choose this. Individually this is different from a regular black because it’s loaded with very fine silver glitter that is just a tiny bit smaller then the silver in the in PMW. So is basically the same as my other index finger just a bit more silver glitter. 😛
Revlon Minted is in 3 coats. This is another polish that likes to bald badly. So I ended up putting the last coat thick. So apparently while picturing the left hand first I must have pressed it to hard into the camera. I was pretty sure it was dry and since I already had to monkey with it just to get it on the nail in the first place I didn’t want to go through another headache to fix it. Pretty much the same as SC Unicorn on the middle finger, left hand.
3 coats of SC Nirvana. It seems like a few of the SC’s like to bald and never dry. This one isn’t as bad as Unicorn but you have to carefully lay it on thick.
3 coats of SC Ruby Ruby. I pretty good formula especially compared to the majority of the other SC’s I used for this swatching.
I hope you enjoyed the swatches of PMW.
Are you going to wear green today? I don’t own anything green besides nail polish! Haha! Anyways here is my holiday inspired nail art!
Sorry about my uneven nails….I’m very stubborn when it comes to giving up all my claws just because one or two had to go and ruin it for the rest of them. But eventually I will breakdown and desire orderly-ness on my nails.
I honestly can’t tell you what color’s where used for the rainbow without diggin’ through my stash. 😛 Majority of them were Sinful Colors. I did the rainbow using the “plastic bag method”, which if you Google that on YouTube you can find a bunch of tutorials and they’re all basically the same. Even though I could have done this free hand with a toothpick (or an orange wood stick) I didn’t feel like wait FOREVER for it to dry on my own hand and risk screwing it up. But yea- just use a white base so all your colors stay vibrant. Oh and FYI I only did the rainbow itself and free handed the clouds on with the polish brush. ALSO, I had to use some tiny scissors to cute one end because it was too long and it stretched a little bit since it wasn’t completely dry. I’m so impatient.
Also a side note on the glitter over the green- in Kleancolors Gold Caviar they base is a jelly yellow and rather thick IMO so I put a blob of polish on a folded up paper towel and fished out the gold glitters with a orange wood stick and the back of a straight pin for the ones near the top. I still did a swipe on the tips but didn’t want to carry the yellow all the way up and completely changing the vision of green and gold I had!
Hope you have an excellent day and don’t get pinched!
P.S. I never heard of the pinching thing as a kid….not until like highschool. Is that a “new” thing, or did kids just avoid me in school? Hm, now I should go reflect on my childhood….. XD
