Maybelline Color Show, Limited Editions, Avante Green and Auburn Ablaze

This one was another that I promised to show! Getting pretty good on keeping my word huh? Anyways I’ve recently been on a no buy and decided stepping into the stores was a bad idea. I did very good for over a month and then decided I should see what kind of displays are up. And lo- and behold there was a Maybelline Color Show LIMITED EDITION display! I pretty much wanted all of them, but decided Avante Green was my #1 must have of all of them and for SOME REASON I’m not sure why- I bought Auburn Ablaze instead. So I kept thinking about Avante Green dreading that I made a mistake. I had to wait a whole week before I could go back and the display was GONE! But I go to Walgreens quite often and knew that the left overs from displays are on the counter by the register in the beauty department and was over joyed to see the last bottle sitting there. Like it was waiting for me. Psychotic,  I know. Anyways enough babble.

Maybelline Color Show- Avante Green

Maybelline Avante Green is in 3 coats, and probably could have used another one…maybe two.  It’s very thin but not a super runny formula its almost painful to work with however. If you have a good base color to go underneath- go for it. I’m sadly disappointed that this didn’t have any real color shift (kinda blue-ish) to it outside of the bottle. What can I say? Lesson learned.

Maybelline Color Show- Auburn Ablaze

Maybelline Auburn Ablaze is in 2 coats. This ended up being a big win for me. I don’t have a lot of colors like this (none since I try to keep my collection simple) but this picture is bringing out a lot more of its wine colored hidden shimmer. In indoor lighting this is a bit more brown with the shimmer leaning a tiny bit more towards purple. Dry time is pretty good- my first coat was thin and my second was thicker then it needed to be-  I could have gotten away with it being thinner and still full coverage (and dry a bit faster, too).

P.S. Sorry about the sloppy slop paint job! I try to do it right the first time, if I can’t I try to at least clean up after myself. Children needed attention so I took a picture before I scuffed them, and I really did ding them bad afterwards.

So far I’m pleased with the polishes that Maybelline keeps coming out with- whether its core line or limited edition like these two. It’s brands like these that make me afraid to waste money trying a new brand I’m not sure I will like!

Green-ish Nail Art for Depression Awareness Month

Here’s my little contribution to Depression Awareness Month! I’m just going to include a great link from the National Institute of Mental Health since according to me- it seem very in depth and covers a lot of questions even family member of those depressed might have.

♥♥ Depression Awareness ♥♥

So I’m guessing this color is green? Kind of a mint? Maybe too dark for that? ANYWAYS- I don’t know the name of this Color Club because it came from Ross and a 7 pack and I have never gotten a pack with names on the bottles- but I believe this set is mismatched. Box says one thing- everything else on the interest shows that SOME of the colors might go- but I might as well assume none of them do. Alter ego Reveal Your Mystery set didn’t include an orange either… This color might be Twiggie but I’m not 100% on it. So yea…whatever…

Sation, Oh My Oceania

Another Sation for you! Its a beautiful light sea green…yes that is my best description. Also has a VERY subtle sheer blue shimmer.

Sation, Oh My Oceania

Sation Oh My Oceania is in 3 coats no top coat. The formula is good, a little runny and dries a little slow. As you can see I stuck my fingers in my hair for a second and was too lazy to start over. Okay so a tip for those of you out there who have runny polishes that pool up on the side edge of the nail and finger- watch robinmosesnailart- seriously she does this thing where she puts her finger on the edge of it and lifts it off(like rolling your finger away). Definitely helps with the evenness and drying time. If its not a big pool of polish it dries faster. Its a method I use a lot with runny polishes and makes life easier lol.

Sation Class Clown + You Butter Tell Me

So I was hoping that because I bought these 2 at the same time that they’d look fairly decent together as well as on there own. So what do you think?

Sation You Butter Tell Me + Class Clown

3 coats of YBTM and 1 of Class Clown. I think this is fun looking and a friend of mine said it looks like a plastic Easter egg.

L.A. Colors Dance Fever Collection

I bought this pack of polishes from T.J. Maxx averaging to be about $1 a piece. I hate that these do not have any names anywhere. I’ve even searched online and the only one I may have a name for is the yellow one “Sea shell”??? Something like that. So here are the pictures all just titled L.A. Colors.  All with 3 coats.

So just quick side notes on each (click them for a better look) the pink is a jelly!! Green is a cremey-jelly. Blue, purple are cremes. Orange, yellow and grey are sheer and shimmery, the grey being more metallic. These are all pretty good formula wise but the blue seemed to drag a little. Still wish these had names :\ Oh well.

Also on my own personal news- I’m sure nobody really reads this- I’ve been put of a very strict no buy for….possibly indefinitely. So I’m sorry that I will most likely NOT show anything new in the future. I am really sorry considering there are 2 from the OPI collection that I want (German-incure by OPI & Every Month Is Oktoberfest) and a very cheap Pure Ice “Heart breaker” that is really awesome and a must have to complete a collection. Some other blogger already have pictures of it so if you wanna see what I’m tlaking about…just google it  :\ I surely have more then enough to keep showing stuff- swatch wise that is. I guess this is just an extra push for me to really get back into the nail art. I have lots of ideas just lacking motivation right now- so I guess I will use the “no buy” as motivation.

Wet n Wild Fergie Polishes; Glowstick + Tonight’s Going Be A Good Night

Wow that’s a long name for a polish. From here on out Tonight’s Going To Be a Good Night will be TGBGN…Pbbbhht. But Glowstick is first, because I promised it I wouldn’t steal its thunder by showing the combo first. These are both from the Wet n Wild Fergie Collection I found at Walgreens. I wasn’t entirely impressed with all of them but I got 3…here’s 2 together.

Before I say anything about these polishes individually I wanted to mention the brush that comes with it. A few other companies are doing this now. A wide round tip brush. I personally love it. I’ve heard some people say that in this collection its TOO wide and they hate it. I love it still, and I sure if my nail were any smaller it would drive me nuts also. Sooo if you have cute tiny dainty nail beds, keep that in mind.

Wet n Wild Glowstick

WnW Glowstick is 3 coats. Easy to use formula, smooth…but doesn’t dry real fast. And I’m not patient, so this was a little agonizing for me to wait. I like that this isn’t just a plain neon lime green- it has a yellow shimmer to it that is super cool! I’ve been needing more greens, I used to really hate the color but I’m starting to warm up to it a lot lately.

Wet n Wild Glowstick + Tonight’s Going To Be A Good Night

WnW TGBGN  is only one coat over the other. I think the coverage it pretty even surprisingly! When saw this I though it was a black polish with gold hex glitters, but it’s obviously clear based small black hex glitter and large gold hex glitters sprinkled throughout. I can see me wearing this glitter over A LOT of other colors….like all of them. I loooove black glitters and don’t have enough of them.

So any thoughts? I’m always open to opinions and debates!

Summer Gradient Nail and Splatter Nails Tutorials!

Hey sorry I’m a little behind on the post for these videos but here it is! Big thank you to Sammy from “The Nailasaurus” for showing us that you can create a beautiful gradient like a pro! I really felt compelled to mention Sammy because it seemed like after she posted her tutorial that there were tons on people on YT putting up videos (doing the same exact thing she was) and I wasn’t really looking it see if they credited her but I wanted to be sure I did, because I sure as heck didn’t come up with this on my own!! So yea please click the link!

And another big thank you to Totallycoolnails on youtube for showing me there are other way to do a splatter nail without a straw! Watching her tutorial totally made me think AH TOOTHBRUSH DUH! Click that link too!!! These girls are geniuses.

Gradient Tutorial!

Splatter Tutorial

Splatter Over Gradient

Colors for the first tutorial are

All Color Club:

  • Tangerine Scream (Orange)
  • Electro Candy (Pink)
  • What A Shock  (Green)

Blast From The Past! Color Club Electro Candy

Even though this summer is big for neons and all the major brands seem to have a summer neon line up, I found this collection at Ross early this spring. It really makes me hesitant to buy any of the new neons out there- as unbelievable as that sounds. Maybe they’re not as neon as some are now? Color Club Electro Candy was from summer 2009.

Formula wise I find these are great  and pop if you have white polish for a base. All of these (except for Pure Energy<the blue one>) are one thickish coat on top of two coats of OPI Alpine Snow.  I also used the “Vivid Top Coat” that came with the set. Which I believe to is to bring out the subtle shimmer in all of these. I must say subtle is definitely the word.  A little more visible in person, regardless I ♥ these. If you don’t use top coat these dry to a dull finish. I can’t even say it satin matte because it isn’t!

Color Club “What A Shock”

The shimmer in What A Shock should be blue. And this color probably turned out more accurate then the rest.

Color Club “Volt of Light”

The shimmer in Volt Of Light should be green. And the color should be a little brighter.

Color Club “Electro Candy”

The collections namesake Electro Candy. Probably has the most visible shimmer which seems to be white. This is very bright but it should be a little more saturated in this photo. Think more like the “dark parts” and less like where the light hits it.

Color Club “Tangerine Scream”

Color Club “Tangerine Scream”

Tangerine Scream was insanely hard to capture and it make me wonder how well it would have turned out if I had a light box.  This is not accurate at all and think more of a caution cone color with a silvery white shimmer. But I thought I would share the pictures because they look super cool to me.

Color Club “Ultra Violet”

Ultra Violet wasn’t nearly as bad as Tangerine Scream to capture but none the less the color is off. My camera has something against purples. What’s in the bottle in this pic should be a touch darker and it has a beautiful blue shimmer that is so pretty IRL.

Color Club “Pure Energy”

Pure Energy is another one that should be a bit darker with a light blue shimmer in it.  Super subtle in this one. Oh and this one is two coats over two coats of white.

So thats all and you can look forward to my using 3 of these in an upcoming gradient tutorial in video form. ;D

Nfu Oh 50

So lately I’ve been trying to hunt down a blue-green flakie since the flakies I do have are nearly identical and are the orange-yellow-green type. In addition to my Jellies js-24 and js-31 I bought this from fabuloustreet.com, Nfu Oh 50! So they have lots of awesome flakies and quite a few with blue-green flakies I just love the lilac base in this.

I’ve put this over a couple of the Maybelline Color Show polishes I posted a few days ago.

Nfu Oh 50 over Maybelline Amethyst Ablaze

Nfu Oh 50 over Maybelline Blue Freeze

Nfu Oh 50 over Maybelline Blue Freeze

Nfu Oh 50 over Maybelline Blue Freeze

Nfu Oh 50 over Maybelline Blue Freeze

I didn’t picture it on the Candy Crush because it basically disappeared. I forgot that I didn’t have a picture of Twilight Rays with 50….Which is too bad because it looks sooooooo cool together!

Nfu Oh 50 is in one coat over these. Has good coverage and isn’t really thick. Has a topcoat on and just so much better IRL.

OPI: Just Spotted The Lizard

Hello! Today I wanted to share with you a polish from the OPI’s new The Amazing Spider-man Collection. OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (JSL), is an awesome duo/multi chorme polish that reflects green and gold. It the bottle there is blue but unfortunately, that doesn’t translate onto the nail.

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (indoors w/o flash)

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (indoors w/ difused flash)

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (indoors with natural light source)

:O Look at that bottle!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (indoors natural light from behind)

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (indoors with natural light source)

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (natural light)

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard (indoors no flash, no bulbs on in the room, just sunlight coming in)

OPI JSP is in 3 coats here and no top coat. Very good formula nice and smooth, I was actually expecting it to be a bit more sheer then it actually was. I really didn’t intend on putting so many pictures for this post but I really wanted to show how different it can be even in the same lighting. You can almost see the blue on the last picture.  Just absolutely stunning IMO. This is one of those very few polishes that I felt like I HAD to have it.

OK I don’t really need to say this because chances are- you already know. I’ve heard and seen that this is a dead on dupe for Chanel’s Peridot. I don’t have Peridot to compare it to, but if you search it online you will find lots of bloggers who do. SOOO that being said this is by far much cheaper.

A very long but funny story goes with this and another polish from the collection. I had called the girls at the local beauty school- which is my closest OPI seller and requested they call me when this collection came in. When they called me 2 weeks later and I asked if they’d hold onto two bottles for me, this one- JSP and Number One Nemesis. I normally wouldn’t do this but I live in a very small town I’m actually 10 miles out of town.  Long story short- my hubby went and picked up my polishes without me knowing, I didn’t have a car to get there in the first place but I was freaking out about getting there (which he let me do!!! in front of his friend btw) before they closed (it was in like away10 mins ATM) and just when I felt like I’d just have to wait until the next day he pulled them out of his pocket. For some girls this would be no big deal but my hubby HATES  chemically smells- in fact  all un-natural smells. So for him to first of go INTO the school, was shocking enough and then to buy NAIL POLISH?! Probably his worst offender? I’m not sure which he hates more- makeup or nail polish? Maybe aerosol air fresheners…Oh well you get the drift. I was beyond shocked.

Whoa got off track! But here’s JSP with Kleancolor’s Coffee Addict stamped over it and Sally Hansen Insta Dri topcoat.

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard + Kleancolor Coffee Addict

This turned out just the way I hoped it would. Not too strong as to take away from the base color but not to light as to blend in and disappear. This isn’t my first time stamping but I do think this is my first post with my stamping featured…ummmm Oh! The image plate is a red angel RA-104, there’s two designs but its still the same plate. I bought my Red Angel’s on amazon.com!

So what do you think of this color? what about stamping? Have you tried it yet?
