D.I.Y.- Dotting Tool!♥

As promised here’s the link on how to make your very own nail dotting tools! *****REMINDER****** This is NOT my own video!  I do not know cutepolish personally but I do love her tutorials and received permission to share this on my blog. I’m constantly trying to learn new things from lots of different places such as youtube, magazines, internet etc. Yes, I could have made my own video, but I felt like this is where I learned this neat trick so, what better way to show you all where I learned it from then from the original herself. 🙂 Enjoy!

In addition to all that information, if you want an even bigger dot you could use  a nut or bolt cover (google cap nut  to get the idea) from your local hardware store. The cap nuts are probably the best considering that its just a nut with a round cover on it and it has an opening so you can put it on the end of a pencil or pen. As for using it, it works the same way as a smaller dotting end, just make sure that there’s enough polish to dip it in to get a bigger dot. 😉

Now as forvmyself, I do have “official” dotting tools that I got on eBay. My experience on eBay has taught me that seller’s out of the US have it way cheaper then seller’s in the states do ( not always though!) so if you have the patience to wait longer then you can get a nice set of dotting tools ( & probably just like the same one’s I have) for a few dollars cheaper.

I think around the time I bought mine I wasn’t too keen on waiting and I got it from someone in the US for what I would consider a reasonable price (something like $5.99 and probably free shipping) and it seemed like right immediately after I purchased the set, cutepolish put up this video! I’ll admit I was somewhat devastated about all this! Like a sick, gut wrenching feeling. In my mind all I could think was “Omigosh, I could have bought at least 3 more polishes with that money instead!!!” XD

Itty Bitty Paw Prints

Itty Bitty Paw Prints

This is my own design, using my own polish that I bought with my own money. 🙂

This design was requested by another friend of mine. 😉

I know that “IHaveACupcake” on youtube has a similar design that’s just as fun and easy. Check her out!

This design is super easy to do! All you need is a few of your favorite colors and a dotting tool (which you can make yourself!).

Put down a base coat and your favorite color (I used a magenta type of polish).

Put a few drops of your contrasting polish on a piece of paper or on a plate or an old lid of something- you get the idea- something you don’t mind ruining. You’re going to be dipping your dotting tool in this for creating the paw prints. I used a pearly white on my left and black on my right for the paw prints.

Putting on the paw prints are really easy. Now personally I like paw prints that look a little more realistic so I put three dots close together in a triangular shape using my largest dotting tool. If you feel like that’s too much work you can just do one larger DOT for the center pad of the “paw”.

Then after that use a smaller dotting tool and make the “toes”. As you can see from the picture I made the two in the center kind of close together and then the last two on the sides. Be careful to not go to far down the sides or away from the middle because then it will start to look like you just put a bunch of random dots on…. but that could still be cool! 😀

You can put as many paw prints as you want or very few if you prefer. For example my little finger doesn’t have as much space as my other fingers so I did just one paw print on it. Kind of reminds me of my old high school team logo, not the same colors though 😦

What I used:

  • Base Coat: OPI Naile Envy
  • Magenta: China Glaze “108 Degrees”
  • Pearly White:  Sinful Colors “Tokyo Pearl”
  • Black: Sally Hansen “Black Out”
  • Top Coat: Seche Vite

I’m hoping that soon I will start making some videos to make it easier to understand what I’m talking about most of the time. I’m sure a lot of people are a lot like myself when it come to learning new things- you have to see it!  Also I’ll be posting picture’s of my tool supplies and a link to a youtuber that has a tutorial on how to make your own dotting tools.  I’m also hoping to start adding to the tips and tricks section pretty soon! So please feel free to contact me with any suggestions or requests! Good luck and have fun!
