SO this design was originated from Robin Moses on Youtube.com. She is the mastermind of Robinmosesnailart and I have attempted a design by her before. I’ve been learning a lot from her over a year. So this is my attempt and I decided to do the original gold roses on my ring finger and change up the rest with some blue!
Here’s the original video first so you don’t have to look for it.
And here’s my art!
Whether or not anyone else likes this- I absolutely love how it turned out. I wore it for awhile. I love how acrylic paint keeps polish on my nails longer! I need to practice more on my leaves, I can’t seem to get those down yet! Gr!
Things ended up taking a little longer then expected AND I’m easily distracted lately. So since the time of me saying I had Sally Hansens new Lustre Chrome “Lava”, I had been drooling over pictures of “Scarab” and went to Walmart (since it was a whole $1 cheaper then Walgreens) and bought it. Since I did that I might as well show them both on the same post. With out further ado…….
Sally Hansen Lustre Chrome Lava, is named perfectly, I do believe! This orange-pink duo-chrome is such a beautiful glowy polish with an awesome shift! Seems very micro flecked and really benefits from a top coat. I used Sally Hansen Insta Dri. SH recommends using one of their own as a top coat- but in my opinion any should work. **Just as a note, it isn’t very dull- top coat just makes it feel and look a bit more glassy.** Application- cake, a little sheer but build-able. Dry time- decent. From index to pinkie (L-R) are 3 coats. 3 coats, 2-3 over black, 2-3 over black. Sorry I can’t remember if it’s 2 or 3, I meant to write it down. I really do love this and have gotten compliments on it- which is pretty rare for me. Haha.
Sally Hansen Lustre Chrome Scarab, is a pretty blue green duo-chrome polish. This isn’t as big of a shift as Lava was but it’s still quite beautiful. Another difference between these two is that Scarab is much more pigmented then Lava. Also I feel that Scarab was more of a true chrome since you can make out my outline (mainly the camera) in some of these pictures. Application- cake. Dry time- excellent. Also could use top coat to gloss it up. From index to pinkie (L-R) 2 coats, 2 coats, 1 over black, 1 over black.
So in summary, I love these! Thay’re non-problematic and could use a top coat to make them look and feel glassy, but still looks absolutely stellar without it.
I’m sooo glad duo-chromes are trending right now because even though this isn’t a completely new concept, I like that it’s becoming more readily available to the masses. Unlike crackles and magnetic’s I think that this will be popular for a long time, since it pretty much already has been very popular among nail polish junkies for years. I only have a few other duo chromes but I’m hoping to expand this part of my collection as more of the big brand companies decide to make entire duo-chrome collections.
I bought this pack of polishes from T.J. Maxx averaging to be about $1 a piece. I hate that these do not have any names anywhere. I’ve even searched online and the only one I may have a name for is the yellow one “Sea shell”??? Something like that. So here are the pictures all just titled L.A. Colors. All with 3 coats.
So just quick side notes on each (click them for a better look) the pink is a jelly!! Green is a cremey-jelly. Blue, purple are cremes. Orange, yellow and grey are sheer and shimmery, the grey being more metallic. These are all pretty good formula wise but the blue seemed to drag a little. Still wish these had names Oh well.
Also on my own personal news- I’m sure nobody really reads this- I’ve been put of a very strict no buy for….possibly indefinitely. So I’m sorry that I will most likely NOT show anything new in the future. I am really sorry considering there are 2 from the OPI collection that I want (German-incure by OPI & Every Month Is Oktoberfest) and a very cheap Pure Ice “Heart breaker” that is really awesome and a must have to complete a collection. Some other blogger already have pictures of it so if you wanna see what I’m tlaking about…just google it I surely have more then enough to keep showing stuff- swatch wise that is. I guess this is just an extra push for me to really get back into the nail art. I have lots of ideas just lacking motivation right now- so I guess I will use the “no buy” as motivation.
Oh hi! I saw some pre-press released pictures of the OPI Minnie Mouse Vintage collection way back and knew I’d have to have at least one…for Minnie’s sake!! Once I was finally able to see official photo’s and descriptions I knew hearts and a flakie based polish was a must have! So without further ado- Nothin’ Mousie About It.
One coat of Nothin’ Mouse About It over one coat WnW Creme Black. Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat. Good dry time. I did black because it really makes the purple and yellow/orange flakies pop in this. I’m guessing the base is a super sheer pink that could build up to what the bottle looks like but still will never be opaque. If I try it and my opinion on that changes, I will edit this! But until then I think if you want it to look pink all the way through without having to do 5+ coats, you’re going to have to do a pink base.
Anyways, over all, I love this. The OPI facebook fan page they have a helpful hint to getting the hearts out. Works alright, I feel like sometimes it doesn’t make a difference, but maybe a little easier as you use more.
Oh hi! So when Zoya came out with this years Beach & Surf summer collection my eyes nearly fell out of my head! I was a good girl and waited long enough for what I would call a really good coupon (3 for $15 and free ship). Seriously if you have a twitter account follow them, they totally clue you in when they have something like that going on. So here’s a pink I couldn’t resist. You may have noticed I’ve been doing a lot more pinks lately. I don’t know what it is but I’m totally being drawn to the girly color I once refused to wear haha.
I love that Zoya Kimber (3 coats I think-no top coat) is not just any old creme finish berry “summer” pink. It’s not too purple toned and the gold shimmer in it is just divine! I little more the subtle IRL. I’ve read on other blogs that people have quite a time getting the right top coat to work out with Zoya nail polish, apparently Seche Vite is an absolute no no combo with them. I find that making sure you coats are really dry in between layers and using Sally Hansen insta dri is just fine. I didn’t here but I have before without any problems.
P.S. Sorry about the state of my cuticles in these pics the weather suddenly go hot and humid at that time and I was really dehydrated! Been drinking a lot more H20 so in a few weeks from now, things will start to look better.
Today’s mani is inspired by “The Polished Perfectionist” Amy Grace. Thanks to Amy I believe I will HAVE to have Nfu Oh JS17 *drool*
Anyways, the first pic is seven layers ending with OPI. The second is eight layers deep alternating JS 24 and OPI Pirouette My Whistle.
Ohhh isn’t that yummy?!
Hey sorry I’m a little behind on the post for these videos but here it is! Big thank you to Sammy from “The Nailasaurus” for showing us that you can create a beautiful gradient like a pro! I really felt compelled to mention Sammy because it seemed like after she posted her tutorial that there were tons on people on YT putting up videos (doing the same exact thing she was) and I wasn’t really looking it see if they credited her but I wanted to be sure I did, because I sure as heck didn’t come up with this on my own!! So yea please click the link!
And another big thank you to Totallycoolnails on youtube for showing me there are other way to do a splatter nail without a straw! Watching her tutorial totally made me think AH TOOTHBRUSH DUH! Click that link too!!! These girls are geniuses.
Colors for the first tutorial are
All Color Club:
- Tangerine Scream (Orange)
- Electro Candy (Pink)
- What A Shock (Green)
Even though this summer is big for neons and all the major brands seem to have a summer neon line up, I found this collection at Ross early this spring. It really makes me hesitant to buy any of the new neons out there- as unbelievable as that sounds. Maybe they’re not as neon as some are now? Color Club Electro Candy was from summer 2009.
Formula wise I find these are great and pop if you have white polish for a base. All of these (except for Pure Energy<the blue one>) are one thickish coat on top of two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. I also used the “Vivid Top Coat” that came with the set. Which I believe to is to bring out the subtle shimmer in all of these. I must say subtle is definitely the word. A little more visible in person, regardless I ♥ these. If you don’t use top coat these dry to a dull finish. I can’t even say it satin matte because it isn’t!
The shimmer in What A Shock should be blue. And this color probably turned out more accurate then the rest.
The shimmer in Volt Of Light should be green. And the color should be a little brighter.
The collections namesake Electro Candy. Probably has the most visible shimmer which seems to be white. This is very bright but it should be a little more saturated in this photo. Think more like the “dark parts” and less like where the light hits it.
Tangerine Scream was insanely hard to capture and it make me wonder how well it would have turned out if I had a light box. This is not accurate at all and think more of a caution cone color with a silvery white shimmer. But I thought I would share the pictures because they look super cool to me.
Ultra Violet wasn’t nearly as bad as Tangerine Scream to capture but none the less the color is off. My camera has something against purples. What’s in the bottle in this pic should be a touch darker and it has a beautiful blue shimmer that is so pretty IRL.
Pure Energy is another one that should be a bit darker with a light blue shimmer in it. Super subtle in this one. Oh and this one is two coats over two coats of white.
So thats all and you can look forward to my using 3 of these in an upcoming gradient tutorial in video form. ;D
Hello! So this is a straight up swatch of Nfu Oh JS24 (from the Jelly Syrup series) on its own, no nail art.
Js24 is in 3 coats in these photos. Rather pinkish with some blueish tones. No topcoat! LOOK AT THAT!! I ♥ it. This polish may bald in spots. I can’t remember if I mentioned this before but these can turn out really good if you’re not too heavy handed with them. After playing around with it a bit it was quite easy to get the hang of. Good formula though not runny or thick. If you wear this on its own you will see every imperfection on the nail. You may notice a long crack on the tip of my nail on the very first picture.
Just a refresher on how this looks when its layered in 1, 2 and 3 coats.
